I work at the Met Office Hadley Centre. I have a degree in physics and have been working as a programmer in the Met Office since graduation. Because my work involves helping the scientists to do their research, I've had to turn my hand to a lot of different things over the years. I've programmed in FORTRAN, shell scripts, Perl, Python and Java for stand-alone and web systems, mainly for LInux platforms. I've designed some large metadata databases. I've also developed and delivered training courses, installed, hacked and grown our internal wiki and set up and run mentoring and teaching groups. I'm keen to learn new things and like the opportunity to work with new people - they always have something to teach me. I have a slightly wicked sense of humour. I'm a fan of Doctor Who, MST3K and the films of Tarkovsky.
